Prodigal Mom: LET US NOT SQUANDER
WHAT WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN
I hope to use this platform to highlight some of the really compelling cries for help in my community, and some of the really inspiring responses. We can’t do everything, but we can always do something.
What does it mean to “practice” your faith? Author Chris Saade describes an evolutionary movement of “sacred activism” (a term coined by Andrew Harvey) in his book Second Wave Spirituality: Passion for Peace, Passion for Justice that celebrates a hands-on, faith-based response to the suffering in the world. Check out my essay in Tikkun magazine to learn more about this inspiring read.

I read your review of Chris Saade’s latest book: “Second Wave Spirituality: Passion for Peace, Passion for Justice.”
Thank you for alerting me to this tome.
I have been following Rabbi Michael Lerner, for years — through his writings in “TIKKUN” magazine.
Another good place to be re: fellow-travelers is GPS for the SOUL: the Third Metric [published in the Huffington Post].
Might I ask, what precipitated YOUR journey.
I started mine, when I realized that I was truly a Super Survivor — I have outlived my Stage IV Cancer Diagnosis by > 25 years. I was NEVER supposed to see my 40th Birthday; I am currently a Senior Citizen.

Greetings!
Thank you so much for your comment, and for your recommendation of GPS for the SOUL. And I am thrilled to hear that you are a Super Survivor! It sounds like you have had an incredible journey.
My journey really began when I worked at a battered women’s shelter and rape crisis center after graduating from college. I was in awe of the amazing women around me –on the staff and seeking services– and I was inspired and comforted by the incredible power of human connection to heal painful wounds. Now I find that my spiritual and political leanings are constantly informing each other, and I hope to find ways to make a difference in the world. Some days I am more successful than others 🙂
Thank you for reading! And I am sorry for the delayed posting and reply – technical difficulties:)
